A friend turned in an old favor and asked me to help sell some of her things. I told her how I'd do it, and also wrote a post on how to enlist Gmail to help sell things on Craigslist.

The post got the attention of The Simple Dollar and some of the commenters thought that what I proposed to do (set up a Gmail account as an autoresponder to buyer requests for information, and link pictures on Flickr) was counterproductive and would deter some good buyers because I was withholding information in the ad and making them jump through a hoop to get the information.

But at the same time, if I don't guard my time, who else will?

If you've sold on Craigslist, what tips do you have to screen out tire-kickers?

One Answer:

I don't sell on CL but my BF does regularly and he's complained many a time about the tirekickers/flakes. I'll ask him to weigh in on this.

FWIW, I thought your solution was rather great.

P.S. Love the edit function. Big <3!
