I have about 20 negative marks on my credit report. Some are 30, 60, 90, 180 day late indicators, some are charged off accounts, some are sent to collections etc.

Lexington Law seems to be a service which will attempt to verify all of the marks on your report to have them removed. I don't think it isn't anything you can'y do yourself, but I'd hope they would be better at it than I would.

Can a service like this hurt you (other than the hit to your wallet)? If the negative marks are valid, is there any chance of them being removed?

I personally have not used them but doing a quick search on the FCC website I found this. The FCC also has an article discussing credit repair scams.

I would avoid these guys at all cost. Even if they did do what they said they could do, they do not offer any service that you can not do yourself for free. If you have any marks on your credit that you are disputing, simply write the credit agencies and they will verify if the debt is valid. If it is not valid, they will remove it from your credit report.

The only way I know how to get rid of marks on your credit that are valid is to pay them. Instead of paying Lexington Law, save up some money and try to settle with some of these debts that are past due and charged off. You can settle most times for 50 cents on the dollar. Make sure you get it in writing and do not give them access to your checking account because they will clean you out then. Doing it this way will help clear your credit.
