Our Sunday school class facilitator has offered us help with moving from our old house to our new one.

It probably will involve about a dozen people or so (from what people tell me).

It wouldn't be appropriate to pay them, but what would be appropriate to do as an expression of thanks?

Take a picture of them, post it to your blog. With a big thank you post!

Everyone likes to be famous.

That's true. I like being famous. But everyone knows that. – Frugallawyer Feb 9 at 5:21

The most traditional gift I know is pizza and beer. If that doesn't work depending on likes or dislikes (as I am one who dislikes pizza), burritos (preferably from Qdoba). Or invite them all back when you are moved in for an informal lunch so they can see what they place looks like when it is finished.

And I'm an old school sort of girl. Nothing says more to me than a handwritten thank you note. A handwritten thank you note with photos would also be a cute idea.

My daughter just did thank-you notes for her birthday gifts. That's not a bad idea. – mbhunter Feb 10 at 3:28

I have done pizza and beer and have also trundled everyone over to the local bar and grill for burgers and cokes. Food says thanks to me!

Oh goodness ... twist my arm for pizza and beer. I'd throw in some wings if I did that, though. – mbhunter Feb 10 at 3:28

With the weather you're having out in your neck of the woods, hot chocolate/hot cider and warm cookies at house 1 and house 2 would not be amiss.

Not only would they not be amiss, they'd be ahit! – mbhunter Feb 10 at 3:22

Providing food is absolutely key on the day of the move but I only consider that as a way to get them through the move itself. Thanks comes after, but that can be food too. My friends moved to a lovely house and as soon as their new BBQ was set up, all movers were invited back for a grill out.

Seconding Danielle's motion, I'd also include a note of thanks for each mover at the second gathering.

Or a dinner/movie night, if you're cookery inclined. Oooh, I just noticed the note about the weather, I hadn't considered inclement conditions. Might be nice to put together a small package of cocoa/cider + treats for them to take home.

Another vote for food. This is very good, because I like food, too. ;) – mbhunter Feb 13 at 7:42
